The box has multiple sets of mounting holes so that you can choose your position fore/aft and fine-tune alignment angle if things get odd. I also had the box to the very right of the car, with the bracket just inboard of the Traverse mounting bracket things. I had the box installed as far aft as it would go, while still clearing the open hatch spoiler & antenna. Very strange, but I promise it's the truth. The profile of the box did a great job of completely canceling out the whoosh/turbulence of the air around the bars. WITH the Thule Sidekick 682 box installed, sound is nearly the same as the stock Sport!! If you don't like the added wind noise, Thule makes an angled deflector plate that mounts to the front bar to cut the noise drastically. My description makes it sound terrible but in reality it was more than fine. ![]() With the roof rack (Thule 1611, 480 Traverse, square bars, extender adapter) by itself, wind noise was certainly noticeable at speeds over 40.Īt the lower speeds, say 40-50, it was more of a resonant howl, and faster than that it was a regular whoosh. One item of emphasis all my experience with this was with my last 500 Sport (101 hp!), not a Turbo or Abarth. No problem - I used this box, loaded, with 3-4 people in the car and a full trunk many many times. Either way, it's gonna be a tightįit up there.Excellent info, Thank you VERY much. The extension kit would certainly give you a longer spread, though you Rocketbox 12 or 14) rather than the longer models. This would be tough for a box unless you got the shortĪnd wide versions (The Thule 600 Series cargo boxes or Yakima's Thule's 'square bars' or Yakima's round bars (when/if they areįrom my experience, the short 2-door cars have about 18-20" betweenīars at best. It will beĭifficult to fit anything up there other than a cargo box. ![]() Whatever you do, don't limit yourself with the aero bars. Two clips in the door jamb and then extends the back bar assembly Short roof adapter) to extend the bar spread on the roof. They also have an optional 'short roof adapter' kit (487 Thule lists theĤ80 Traverse Foot Pack and the KIT1611 clip kit for attachment to the Thule has a fit while Yakima does not for the 500. The grooves are the limiting part to the adjustments. To be clear, the boxes have adjustable attachment points. Don't have enough room? Get a trailer or a bigger car. With that said, don't go putting the 18 cf box on top. It's easy to do and really is not a structural issue since the box buckles well after the max load range for the rack. So, I cut longer grooves with a router and viola. I have the opposite problem with the box and the trailer. ![]() You have two choices if the max bar spread is less than the minimum spread for the boxes: cut longer grooves or get a longer car. Is there a rack fitment down the car? Second, what's the max spread between bars? The boxes have a minimum spread based on the pre-cut grooves in the box. I asked my son who used to work at an outdoor store in NC and is an avid kayaker who knows a lot about racks and fitment about this:
